London Underground SSL

Modelling support and software development for Thales. Including performance analysis and service disruption assessment for the proposed service enhancement and incrased passenger thoughput on the London Underground. The work was undertaken to aid Thales in their tender submission to LU to reinforce the performance claims made in relation to delays, service frequency and interoperability between both historic rollingstock and Network Rail operations.

The work was part of a response to an LU invitation to tender for the multi-billion pound upgrade to the century old tube network.

Ongoing.

SCAT

Short Circuit Analysis Tool providing realtime remote fault information for Network Rail as part of their intelligent infrastructure initiative.

Design, build, support and commissioning of the miniscat3g system which monitors OHLE failures on the WCML. Including data integrity, ‘heartbeats’, file transfer integrity, reverse tunnelling for remote access between two NAT restricted networks, web based delivery of fault data, automated email and text message alerts on OHLE failures.

3G technology was used for data communications and MD5 checksums are used for file transfer integrity.

The system is capable of automatic self diagnosis and repair as well as automatic software updates at the remote locations. All units are fully sealed, air tight, have no moving parts and have a high operating temperature range.

All faults are reported within 15 minutes of failure to nominated persons and the system has an availability requirement of 80%. Current system availability across all sites is 97% over the past 28 days.

This is an ongoing project.

MWRS

Metallic Waste Recycling System waste tracking system, based on the web (intranet) providing realtime location information and consist information, along with future activity forecasting.

Design, development, testing and implementation of a nuclear waste tracking system. This is a web delivered (intranet) product to enable tracking and logging of waste throughout its lifecycle - from planning of waste recovery to output of metallic items to open market and scheduling of contaminated waste to secure disposal sites within the UK and other EU countries. This includes detailed monitoring of user activities and associated actions / remedial actions and nuclide contaminant levels.

This system forms part of the requirement for the grant of the reprocessing plant licence.

Completed November 2009.
